Colectivo Relevo is an Auxilium Art initiative directed to youths living in vulnerable circumstances. The main purpose of this program is to encourage art as a therapy, doing it through sensitive art. In this first edition I was invited by Auxilium Art Gallery to participate with 3 youngsters who suffer cerebral palsy from the Nuevo Amanecer Institute in my hometown Monterrey, México.

I really liked the idea that the participants could have the same creative process of experimentation that any other artist goes through. My personal work is all about that, I start doing some tests and the outcome may be something completely different from what I originally imagined.

I thought the best way to approach this would be painting with light; In this photography technique you never know how it will look until the shot is completed over the exposure time. They experimented and played in the dark making shapes with a laser on the wall over a 20 to 30 seconds interval. They were very excited to see the final picture on the laptop, that’s why I really like this technique, it can be quite fun to do it.

For the final piece with my personal intervention, I played with the 3 pictures they generated; I duplicated them in order to create kaleidoscopic forms. It was a lovely experiment and I’m very happy with the work done by all who were involved, especially with Auxilium Art Gallery for all their support in this project.

Colectivo Relevo es una iniciativa de Auxilium Art dirigida a jóvenes que viven en circunstancias vulnerables. La finalidad de este programa es impulsar el arte sensible a través del arte como terapia. En la primera edición fui invitada por la galería Auxilium Art a participar junto a 3 jóvenes con parálisis cerebral del Instituto Nuevo Amanecer en mi ciudad: Monterrey, México.

Me gustó la idea que los jóvenes tuvieran el mismo proceso creativo de experimentación por el que pasan muchos artistas. Mi trabajo es mucho de eso, comienzo haciendo pruebas y al final el resultado puede ser algo totalmente distinto a lo que imaginé.

Pensé que la mejor forma de ejecutarlo sería pintando con luz; en esta técnica fotográfica nunca sabes como se verá hasta que hayan terminado los segundos de exposición de la toma. Ellos experimentaron en la oscuridad haciendo formas en la pared con un láser por un intervalo de 20 a 30 segundos. Estaban muy emocionados de ver la fotografía final en la laptop, me gusta mucho esta técnica, es muy divertida.

Para la pieza final con mi intervención, jugué con las 3 fotografías que ellos generaron, las dupliqué para crear formas caleidoscópicas. Fue un experimento muy entretenido y estoy muy contenta con el trabajo realizado por todos los que estuvimos involucrados, especialmente gracias a la galería Auxilium Art por el apoyo a este proyecto.
